I am really surprised this hasn't gotten more attention in the media. Well, it has, but people are talking about it as part of the trump vs GM fight. Nobody is talking about it as a direct threat to Tesla's very existence, which it is.

Anyway, trump is angry with GM for closing manufacturing plants and causing trump to break his campaign promise that no plants anywhere would ever close under his presidency.

Anyway, if trump ends the Electric Vehicle (EV) subsidy, that could very well push Tesla over the edge. Tesla is doing better, but their finances are still a little but shaky, and ending the subsidy would be a really BIG blow. That subsidy is what keeps them even remotely competitive with gasoline-powered cars.

I don’t view it the same way. T≡SLA is out of the woods now, even without subsidies. Model ≡ is about to enter China and Europe where demand should be between 300 and 400k per year... then the Y will be even more... T≡SLA will long outlast the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. ;)

The subsidy for both Tesla and GM is about to run out in the near future. Ending it will not affect the front runners, but will crimp new companies hoping to enter the electric car market.

Didn't Trump say he was just going to end the tax credit (and possible other subsidies) for GM only? This should not affect Tesla or any other company. This Trump bluster is so annoying, first he thinks he can bully GM into keeping plants open that are loosing money for GM. GM's plans for the remaining plants are to increase electrification, and cutting off any subsidies will only hurt GM further creating more unemployed, not helping them. Second if Trump succeeds in forcing GM to build ICE vehicles only and not EVs then GM's future is doomed. Smart move Trump!
