For all those of you Roadster enthusiasts out there, thought I'd post this new thread to capture news about the next generation, likely to intensify over the next months...

Here is a first article from the typically not so favorable Matthew DeBord of Business Insider, which tells me things must be going real' well @ T≡SLA for him to talk so excitedly about the new Roadster...! :)

I'm hoping they build a simple roadster in the same vein as the Model 3.. The Miata was always my favored ICE car, even moreso than the Vette. Of course, I'm also hoping they build a true supercar that even the most adamant ICE apologist will fall for.

Unfortunately, as simple as the original Roadster was... Tesla has turned into loading things up on these EVs.

We have relatively less "tech" in our Tech Package 2013 S than a current Model S.

I'm not counting on a new roadster anytime soon.

Sure, there will be one eventually, but I'm betting Elon puts his "Master Plan, Part Deux" into action before getting a new roadster on the road. He said he would. We should believe him.

--- excerpts from the plan --- (with a little grammar adjustment to make them fit together) ---

Expand to Cover the Major Forms of Terrestrial Transport
Today, Tesla addresses two relatively small segments of premium sedans and SUVs. With the Model 3, a future compact SUV and a new kind of pickup truck, we plan to address most of the consumer market. Two other types of electric vehicle are needed: heavy-duty trucks and high passenger-density urban transport (buses).
What really matters to accelerate a sustainable future is being able to scale up production volume as quickly as possible.

So, there is no low volume high cost two seat zipster in the plan. He did that already. He may do one again, AFTER he addresses the rest of the transport market and gets production scaled up to meet or exceed demand.

Other companies are making high priced impractical electric joy-buggies. Here is one that makes me wonder if Pixar was involved in the design phase:rolleyes:

I don't get excited by concept Tesla vehicles from someone OTHER than Tesla... I like to reserve my emotional energy of "WANTING" a Tesla from something that Tesla might make rather than fall in love with a cool design that has no chance of Tesla using now that someone else has published a design...

That being said... The picture you published is COOL!

Still years away, yet the future Roadster sure is stimulating some creative minds... Do you like this one?
Shall Elon launch a contest? ;)

What do I expect for the next Tesla Roadster?
Part Lamborghini, part fighter jet, and way more fun than we have a right to expect in life.

    It won't be anytime soon.

    Tesla telegraphs models years ahead.

3 soon, then Y. Then who knows.

Not to mention the Tesla Semi that they're working on in secret now.

I thought it was going to come right after the 3, but before the Y...

With Tesla we never know... could be like that boring machine tunnel thing that just showed up. A few weeks ago when I heard about it I thought it was years away.

The Boring Company is Elon's own company.

Tesla is a public company, so a little more difficult for them to put a plan out for investors to just rapidly change without justification.

Tesla will need to show a path to profitability after all this growth. Getting to a small cross over (which is what the Y is purported to be) makes more sense. Besides it's hard to spell Sexy from S3X without Y.

Pricewise, one can surmise in the $150-200k, right, @Dennis ?

I wouldn't presume the pricing for the next Roadster. I assumed the X would've been more expensive and pleasantly surprised when the differential with the S wasn't much.

My predictions? (and they are almost worth the paper they are not written on)
=> The next roadster will show up in 2025 (I'm being a little optimistic).
=> The next roadster will cost about the same ballpark as a Mazda Miata .
=> The next roadster will have performance and road handling specifications similar to a Lamborghini or Ferrari except for the top end high speed.
=> The next roadster may well come in 2 versions, a stripped down basic one, and a fully loaded double priced one.
